Services for those with Specific Needs

The main services offered to those with specific needs are described below. For information and details about other services, please contact the Call Center.

Physically disabled people

  • Handrails are fitted to all stairs and ramps within the Expo Site.
  • For vertical movement, please use the elevators and escalators located adjacent to stairs. (Some pavilions are not equipped with elevators. Please ask the attendant for assistance.)
  • Hearty Carts patrol some areas of the Site. These can be used by visitors who are fatigued or unable to walk long distances. (Note: The carts are not equipped for direct wheelchair boarding.)

For Wheelchair Users

  • Loan wheelchairs are available in Care Centers.
  • Self-propelled wheelchairs and wheelchairs with caregiver brakes are available. Users should bring their own cushions and rugs, etc.
  • Care Centers also provide wheelchair maintenance equipment, including compressors, puncture repair kits with valve rubber, etc., and recharger plugs.
  • Public transport (IMTS, gondolas, trams) at the Expo Site is wheelchair-accessible, though it may not be possible to board some vehicles in extra-large wheelchairs.
  • Multipurpose and extra-wide rest rooms have been provided at the Expo Site.

Power Wheelchairs

  • Power wheelchairs are not available for lending.
  • Care Centers provide wheelchair maintenance equipment, including compressors, puncture repair kits with valve rubber, etc., and recharger plugs.
  • Public transport (IMTS, gondolas, trams) at the Expo Site is accessible in power wheelchairs, though it may not be possible to board some vehicles in extra-large wheelchairs.
  • Depending on the design of rides in pavilions, power wheelchair users may need to transfer to seats or manual wheelchairs.

Visually Disabled People

  • Textured guide blocks have been installed to guide visually disabled people from each gate to a Care Center.
  • Magnifying glasses and reading glasses are available at Information Desks and Care Centers.
  • Braille guide books (with CDs) are available at care centers. Each center also has 10 CD players available for loan.
  • A touch model guide to the entire Expo Site has been provided near the North Gate information area.
  • Braille brochures and menus are available in some pavilions and restaurants.
  • Touch signs have been provided near the entrances to rest rooms at the Expo Site.

Visitors with Hearing Difficulties

  • Equipment for written communication is available at Information Desks and Care Centers.
  • Staff capable of simple sign language communication are stationed in Care Centers.
  • Information about congestion, events, waiting times, access and emergencies, etc., at the Expo Site is displayed on 53 50-inch information displays located at gates, information areas, on the Loop and elsewhere.
  • Attendants and “ multi-staff” personnel are aware of the “ Mimi Mark” (“ Ear Mark” ).

Disabled People with Guide Dogs

  • Some pavilion rides may not be suitable for riding with guide dogs.
  • Visitors with guide dogs may be asked to sit at specified tables in restaurants.
  • Please consult an Information Desk or Care Center for information about toilet facilities for guide dogs.

  • Strollers can be borrowed free of charge at the Baby Center.
  • Baby beds, nursing rooms, and hot water for infant formula are available in the Baby Center.
  • Some restaurants provide hot water for infant formula.
  • There is a child care center at the North Gate.
  • Child ID tags are available near the entrance gates and at Information Desks.
  • The Lost-Person Center will care for and search for lost children.

Other Services

  • The Lost-Person Center will care for and search for lost people.
  • It is not possible to call people at the Expo Site using the public address system. Visitors should take advance precautions, such as the arrangement of a meeting place in the event that they become separated.
  • Rest areas are equipped with tatami and partitions.
  • Most multipurpose Toilets at the Expo Site have ostomate support.
  • Care Centers have ostomate care spaces.
  • Staff with foreign language abilities (English, Chinese, Korean) are available in Information Desks.
  • Smoking is permitted only in designated areas.
  • Public announcements will be made throughout the Expo Site in the event of emergencies. Please follow the evacuation instructions provided by security personnel.
