2F: Activity Treasure Island Zone

Outline of Exhibition

Activity Treasure Island Zone

Interactive activities are major attractions.

Visitors enjoy programs that feature food (cooking), animation and sports.

Tropical! Banana Village -I made paper from banana!-

A papermaking workshop using banana stems gains the full cooperation of Hiroshi Morishima, Chairman of the Non-Profit Organization Association of International Cooperation for Banana Paper Project (Professor, Nagoya City University, School of Design and Architecture), to attract children's interest in environmental issues.

Banana stems, generated in enormous quantities after harvest, have formerly been simply thrown away. Making quality paper from those stems constitutes recycling of unused resources, and, by using banana stems as an alternative to wood, helps achieve economic self-reliance in developing countries and fosters environmental preservation. Children will get a sense of this message by making banana paper cards.

In addition to the papermaking workshop, this program features video shows on environmental issues and a venue decoration depicting a tropical region.

Children can drop postcards they've made in this workshop into a mailbox on the first floor of the pavilion.
