Croatia: EXPO Greetings from Ston, Croatia

Sep.3

This summer, 40 young people from 8 countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, Thailand and Yemen - that will work as pavilion staff at the 2005 World Exposition, took part in the international work camp, named EXPO Summer Camp 2004 - Ston, Croatia.

We were especially honored to have had with us in Ston three participants from Hekinan - Croatia's host town at the EXPO 2005, Aichi, Japan.

This project was organized as a part of the Croatian preparations for the 2005 World Exposition, and therefore located at the Ston's saltpan - the cornerstone of the Croatian presentation at the forthcoming World Exposition. In spite the rainy season, participants did experience the traditional and natural salt production at Europe's oldest saltpan, where salt has been produced by the same method for 4000 years.

After sometimes exhausting work at the saltpan in the mornings, participants got to enjoy the warm Adriatic Sea and beauties of South Croatia, including the astonishing medieval city of Dubrovnik. Also, this was a unique opportunity for the participants to meet their future EXPO colleagues. We believe they left Ston with many pleasant memories and a common wish - to meet up in Japan, during the 2005 World Exposition!

We would like to take this opportunity to, once again, thank all the participants, their respective National Commissioners General of Section for EXPO 2005, representatives of Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition and others who have contributed to the success of this project.
