Participation of the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition in the Johannesburg Summit 2002

The Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition (Exposition of Global Harmony) is scheduled to hold a presentation and exhibition parallel to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD/Johannesburg Summit) scheduled to be held in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa, as follows.
The Association has been registered and approved by the United Nations as a participating organization in the Johannesburg Summit 2002 of March 25, 2002, three years prior to opening of EXPO 2005.

Japan Pavilion - Japan Day: Rediscovering Japan

The Japan Pavilion was opened with the cooperation of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government ministries, government organizations, private businesses, and various other organizations, including NPOs and international organizations. The pavilion is divided into an exhibition area and a seminar area. This seminar area is scheduled to become the venue for “Japan Day: Rediscovering Japan” held on August 29 (Thurs.) and 30 (Fri.), as well as seminars, panel discussions, presentations, etc., on a wide range of topics such as the environment, development, sovereignty in Africa, science and technology.

Water Dome

The Water Dome has been planned and organized by water-related organizations and entities around the world to promote the importance of water in sustainable development, in time with the Johannesburg Summit 2002.

“No Water, No Future” is the theme. The event will aim to appeal to the entire world that resolving the water issue is vital for sustainable development in the 21st century and to strengthen cooperation among relevant parties.

The Secretariat for the Third World Water Forum is scheduled to organize a joint exhibition of the World Water Council and the Global Water Partnership, as well as various other events.

The Third World Water Forum is scheduled to be held in March 2003 in Kyoto, Shiga, and Osaka. The Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition is also scheduled to participate.
