EXPO Eco Tours

The main theme of EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan is the “Nature's Wisdom,” and one of its sub-themes is “Development for Eco-Communities.” These themes represent the aim of EXPO 2005, which is to provide opportunities for people around the world to think about the environment, through diverse natural and environmental conservation activities.

The Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition will provide “EXPO Eco Tours” as a part of its environmental education programs. There will be three types of Eco Tours, under different concepts. All are free of charge.

  1. Backyard Tour: For members of governmental agencies, business entities and students, who are interested in environmental technology
  2. Kids Eco Tour: For elementary and junior high school students
  3. Self Eco Tour: For general visitors

- In the Backyard Tour, participants will study ultramodern technologies adopted at EXPO 2005, including a new energy facility that generates power from garbage discarded at restaurants inside the venues, to supply electricity required at Japan Pavilion Nagakute; and a hydrogen fuel-supplying facility that refuels fuel cell-powered vehicles.

Participation in this tour requires advance reservation. Apply on the website of the Environmental Partnership Organizing Club (EPOC), a co-organizer of EXPO 2005, or by facsimile at +81-52-811-1367. Reservations have been taken since Monday, January 17, 2005. For reservation inquiries, call +81-52-824-2406.

- On the Kids Eco Tour, children, citizens of the future world, will be shown around diverse environmentally conscious facilities as part of their environmental education.

Group applications (elementary/junior high school children, and similar groups) are received by phone at +81-70-5645-2472 by the EXPO 2005 Volunteer Center, another co-organizer of EXPO 2005. Some capacity is spared for individual participants, who should apply onsite. Space for individual participants is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations have been taken since Monday, January 17, 2005.

- In the Self Eco Tour, visitors guided by the Eco Map (tentative name) can tour environmentally focused facilities scattered around the EXPO venues. The map will introduce visitors to over 50 facilities; they can visit these as their schedules permit.
