Children's Art Work from The 6th international symposium

E-Group was led by Mr. Bob Hartman.

He explained the essentials of a good story and then had the children make up one about Morizo and Kiccoro, while he encouraged their creative ideas. Once the story was decided together, he separated them into six teams, each responsible for creating a collage panel to describe a different part of the story.

The children next drew pictures and painted them in, while Mr. Hartman and Mr. Sobue went from team to team to encourage and offer suggestions. Finally, each team cut out their pictures and pasted them onto the respective panel. The six imaginative collage panels together told a wonderful story.

E-Group with story

X-Group was led by Mr. Bagin and Mr. Sokolov.

They explained the importance of producing a “storyboard” when creating animation. Looking at the storyboard, they explained, it's possible to understand the basic story and the actions of the characters. They then divided the children into six teams, explaining that each team would make their own story by drawing a storyboard.

Using the many ideas came out one after another from the children in the teams, each team created a story. They imagined what the main characters actions were and drew the storyboards. They also added dialogue for the characters. Finally, they colored in their creations. All the stories displayed the children’s love of nature.

P-Group was led by Dr. Okekwe.

She and the children created stories about such things as the preciousness of life and Nature's Wisdom, with Morizo and Kiccoro as the main characters. She split the children into two teams, explaining they would bring to life the stories. Using paper decorations and by drawing and coloring, each team made pictures to graphically depict their stories.

Birth of the Forest

Promise of the Forest

O-Group was led by Mr. Ogata.

He introduced a story with four scenes — created by Mr. Gathright — on the theme of Morizo and Kiccoro's Forest is Like a Big Piggy Bank. Each scene revolved around people blessed with the abundance of the forest: The Satoyama Person Who Gathered the Forest Soil, The Satoyama Person Who Gathered the Forest Mushrooms, The Satoyama Person Who Cut Down Some Trees in the Forest, and The Satoyama Person Who Played in the Forest.

The children used soil, twigs, and other natural materials gathered from the forest in the city of Seto and chose what they liked and pasted them on the empty spaces on the paper-thin board to complete their page with their image of the forest. Throughout this, Mr. Ogata explained how materials from the forest were used to make things for everyday life, along with other interesting facts about the forest.
